He says "most" of the new fixtures have electronic ballasts which reduce the hum effect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_ballast Sixteen years ago I bought some really cheap fixtures for my old shop, they still have the humming magnetic ones, so keep on the lookout. I'm putting double-doors from my garage into a small room where I can move stuff in/out. New lights, separate electric panel, should be nice. Of course, my son wants the space for his clarinet repair work too... Jim
