[pianotech] Drilling pinblocks from the bottom

David,
Consider, the next time you pull the pins on a rebuild, look at the ends of the tuning pins. More often than not, they are rusty! Gee, I wonder why? Personally, I don't want ANY moisture getting into the pin block if I can avoid it. Hence, I do not drill all the way through. AND, I put a finish on the pin block...completely! In 37 years of doing it this way, I have had 0, (zero) failures, even on pianos that were subjected to extremely adverse conditions! So, there's the reason to NOT drill all the way through. Just another "fine point", like the Becket thingee!<G>

That also assumes that a person would drill the pinblock ALL the way through.....Which I don't!<G> (with good reason, IMA)
