[pianotech] Gen-u-whine Steinway parts

Of course, my response was a bit tongue in cheek. Nobody builds a piano from the ground up with their own factory made 'everything" parts anymore; perhaps never did (?). Kluge keys are great, so are keys from Rick Wheeler out in the Portland area! Steinway doesn't make them. Just an example. Plates are cast somewhere, lubricants are made somewhere else, cleaners etc. no such thing as totally total anything, nor should it. The Steinway factory would have to entail a 15 square mile area for example to make "everything"! LOL Like that's going to happen in Queens! LOL again! Go Steinway, keep on keeping on! I love your stuff!

Good luck on the sale, Dale!

Paul

Thanks for the Support gents
I called the client and..., delivered the message in my usualy professional manner but with lower blood pressure. The client is still shopping and I used all your suggestions as defusing the all gen-u-whine Steinway parts thing. She is very interested again and may yet come.
Keith,.... the "If you had to choose superior performance over authenticity, what would you choose" was the best. Guess what the answer was? Performance
  Thanks my brothers

Hi Guys
Well it finally happened, a prospective client who was scheduled to see a very nice Steinway B we have for sale and declined to even come see it because she spoke with the dealer and learned how non ge-u-whine parts degrades the piano. Its not s a Steinway anymore!

Greetings,
I can only suggest speaking what is inarguably true, ie, that in your opinion, the customer has been led astray by a marketing ploy that doesn't have much basis in reality. If that message were delivered in the proper spirit, then the customer will either reconsider or not, but whatever happens, it will be the optimum result for you.
Perhaps it is better, Dale, that you didn't sell your piano to a stupid customer. The universe rewards us with good luck wrapped in a lesson, and sometimes all it takes is a little time to open it up.

Regards,
Ed Foote RPT
