  I do it all the time.  Just bend a center pin to go in a small handle, brake out the old stuff, insert the crooked small center pin and insert another pin of the right size from the other side.   You can hold it with a small vice grip.   I put the action on a cradle and tip it forward and lift up the wippen that I want to work with.  Takes about 45 minutes to install a set of wood replacements.
