. Lined up beckets are just that - lined up beckets. They neither indicate superior workmanship nor sloppy workmanship. Just one small detail thst some people choose to fuss over and others choose to ignore.

They do indicate a craftsman's ability to be consistent.? If it took longer, or more effort, or more material to line the beckets up, there would be a fine argument to ignore them.? However, it doesn't, so I usually wonder why a restringer doesn't learn to leave them aligned. It is simply an indicator of care, like even mortise filing in the keys.?
???? When I examine a piano with perfect beckets, I still check the pinblock fit, the torque, the bearing, etc.? When I examine a piano with helter skelter beckets, I do the same.? However, I find far more well done jobs with the beckets aligned than the other.
??????? There is also the argument that having beckets all in the same angle allows easier coil leveling, as well as access to them with pliers to tighten their entry into the holes. And an easier time when it comes to restringing. ? And they look nice, like a good finish,(which has nothing to do with how well the piano sounds or plays).?
???
