  Yeah,  I did enlarge the plate holes slightly and this helped... but I mean ....17 of these buggers?  Most have 12 or 13. I can see that It will be necessary to drill & plug some holes on many grands.  Just observe how many plate holes on Steinways are hogged out to get the original bolts in.

Getting the alignment right can be a bit tricky especially if the bolts don’t go in exactly vertical.  Using a drill that has a centering bubble gauge built in is helpful.  You can also always remove a bit of material from the plate holes with a round file.

… With 17 threaded studs sticking up it was important that they be closely aligned with the plate holes. I had to stand on the plate & jump up & down on it to get it to drop in…
