You could place a spacer on top of the top bracket to place more strain on the prop rod. If that doesn't have a positive effect, plug the holes in the key bed and move the bracket forwards to increase the pressure. I looked at a YC Weber in my shop and the rod has a little play on the pin. You could get a larger diameter pin or ream the hole in the rod and insert a bushing. In the fastener isle of most hardware stores there are bronze and nylon bushings. Perhaps one of those could suit and be more durable than cloth.
