Nature of tuning pins - the return of the tapered pin?

Don't know whether that's by design but it would make sense since you don't
want the pin loose at the top and tight at the bottom.  Also, since the top
of the hole gets the most abuse during installation, such a design might
tend to create more uniformity in block contact along the length of the pin
once the pin is driven in.
