For a while Baldwin used a bridle wire without the traditional twist 
at the end.
They simply placed a 'hump' in the wire and sometimes the strap worked it's
way down the wire. To remedy this, place a bead of glue under the strap
to prevent it from sliding.

Spinet damper spoons are easier to adjust than you think, certainly 
easier than a console.
