  HI Joe
  No.  Even though spruce is a stronger material  than the old sugar pine 
rib, remember that the new crowned spruce rib has  to carry all the string 
bearing pressure, that the compression, from the  old compression crowned board 
helped support previously, so I actually make them  taller & less wide which 
increases beam support greatly.
