Bösendorfer Rim

Hi Rich

I have to admit that Bosies have always been one of my favorites. They
are <<no doubt about it>> not a Steinway, but they have every bit as
much to offer any concert situation in their own way as any Steinway
does. I've often thought that had pianists not the seeming addiction to
the <<predictability>> of the Steinway sound and touch to the degree
they evidently do, that Bosies would be wayyyy more frequent on the
concert scene around the globe then they are.

Its always suprised me that pianists seem sooooooo into the one sound
bit. That self-imposed handicap (IMHO) shows itself in everything from
the temperament question to the dominance of Steinways and perhaps soon
Yamaha. It seems to go against one of the core values that all music
and art should stand for.... exploration.

Well.. we've gotten off the technical "whys and hows" treadmill and on
the "what we like" one I guess... but its been good reading me thinks.

Thanks for the input one and all.

Cheers
RicB

To RicB.,

I have had pianists choose a Bosie 225 over a Mason BB (7 ft.) AND a
Steinway
D (9 ft.) based on the piano's power. The color spectrum available on a
properly serviced and prepped Bosie is pretty hard to beat.

Hi Ric,

In response to your last paragraph, I happen to have a recording of a
concert a friend did over at Cunningham piano (Phila, PA) on a model
217 or 225 (not sure which one). He'd probably beat me if I posted it
for people to listen to, but I could post a short clip for anyone
thinking a Bosendorfer is light on power and it may encourage them to
re-think. It was just a casual recording from a reasonable distance
(good equipment though), but there is no doubt that it has some "guts".
