Two recordings come to mind:

Lang Lang live at Seiji Ozawa Hall, Tanglewood (the first Telarc CD)

Phillipe Entremont, "Debussy's Greatest"

Both of the above are near-field, haunting, full-spectrum, and a beautiful
example of a well-prepared piano, dark and throaty.

For jazz, listen to Brad Meldau's "Anything Goes" CD released last year.

I LOVE this thread; we need to talk a lot more about voicing, string
voicing, precise action regulation, and precise tuning as a path to that
beautiful tone we all have in our memories.
