Hi Don, Wax should be soluble in nonpolar solvents such as mineral spirits, acetone, etc. You should probably chip off the excess wax, and then wash with your solvent of choice, which will carry the wax away. You should probably do at least two solvent rinses. If you opt for Ric's boiling method (in which the wax should melt and float upwards, out of the string), be sure not to pull the strings out of the pot through the layer of molten wax on the surface of the water, else the stuff will be deposited right back where you don't want it. Also, to prevent rusting, you can drive off the water by dunking briefly in acetone before drying. Have fun! :-) Peace, Sarah ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don" <pianotuna@accesscomm.ca> To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Monday, January 10, 2005 2:52 PM Subject: wax removal > Hi, > > Any one have any ideas on how to remove wax from bass strings without > destroying them in the process? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > > Regards, > Don Rose, B.Mus., A.M.U.S., A.MUS., R.P.T. > Non calor sed umor est qui nobis incommodat > > mailto:pianotuna@accesscomm.ca http://us.geocities.com/drpt1948/ > > 3004 Grant Rd.
