Hi Julie,

I find the string that has the shortest distance to the tuning pin varies
the most of the three--so if "proof" is what you are after try it out.
Personally my limit for "fine tuning" is + or - two cents.

If you want the "real picture" you may wish to average all three
strings--and do a graph of the F3 to F4 octave note by note. (it is not
often a pretty sight, unless you have tuned the instrument five or six
times in a row {over a period of years}).
