Igulli asked: "What about those who bang on a note after you tune, then =
announce this =3D
note is flat.....they have not played a chord or a scale just that note. =
=3D
I find it very interesting first, that they never say a note is sharp. =
=3D
They dont compare it to anything

Igulli,
Over the years, I've found that this, (annoying), reparte', is related =
to voicing. The problem is the terminology that the client is using. =
I've found that if I go at it from this angle, it proves out that the =
client didn't like the sound of the note. (Probably, before I tuned it!) =
Because of this, they immediately go to that note to see if I made it =
better w/tuning, (which I probably didn't.<G>) When this occurs, I tell =
the client to give me a minute and I'll try and improve the note. At =
which point, I VOICE the offending note. Most of the time the client =
returns, plays the note and says it's much better! Go figger!<G>=20
Of course there are those that have, what I call extreme pitch =
recognition. These clients are usually, (but not exclusive to), =
violinists and other assorted Professional musician types. This =
situation is difficult to get around and oft-times requires an Historic =
Temperament to satisfy them. (Or at least to placate them, somewhat.<G>)
I have known many, who have extreme pitch recognition and not one of =
them can sing A=3D440 within 5 cents! (Or 10cents for that matter!) =
Therefore, I maintain my original statement: IF someone had "perfect =
pitch" they could not stand to listen to the piano, because it is the =
most "out of tune" instrument! I also maintain that, J.S. Bach would go =
off, screaming, in a rubber room, if he heard his works being played on =
a modern piano! Especially, if it was tuned in an Equal Temperament![G]
