Would someone please help.

But the key leads should have no influence at all on where let-off takes place. That's all a function of key height and where the regulating buttons are set (and key-dip, but key-dip does not affect let-off, either, unless it's too shallow, in which case let-off might not even take place; and if it's too deep, the jack might jam against the regulating rail or the catcher). Does the tip of the jack come away from the butt leather about 3/16" or so? Are the butt leathers deeply grooved? Are the regulating rail screws tight and the buttons centered over the jack tenders? Hard to say what's going on without more specifics.

[Replying to my own post after reading Paul McCloud]: I should have said that the jack should come away from the butt leather, but by no more than about 3/16". --David Nereson, RPT
