When I had my store, in my in house technician would wear a dust mask, and
use rubber gloves to clean the pianos inside and out. But she would do 2 or 3
pianos a week. If you are doing one every two or three months, you might want
to wear gloves, and unless there is a lot of dust, you could probably get
away with not wearing a dust mask. But that is a personal opinion. Do
whatever you think is right for you. Or in your case, recommend what ever
your students think is wise.
