Sounds to me like your geometry and hammer weights must be close to where you want to be. An easy thing to consider in such a case is to simply even out the hammer weights (Strike Weights) and the Front Weights. That will give you a real nice even touch. I did just those two things on a sluggish big Young Chang for a church and they have been thrilled with the results.
