Tips on finding leaking damper

Terry and list,

I once had some tough lessons on dampers and damper regulation (Yamaha 
Academy).
On of the most important lessons was that when a trichord damper does 
not function properly, we take out the trichord damper en with a very 
sharp knife carefully scratch (not cut!) the inside groove.
Usually, and almost always, a small amount of felt fluff comes out. 
This is almost always enough to make that damper work OK again.
Think about it, just some fluff!
It has of course to do with the fact that the groove is not straight 
enough and thereby obstructs 100% contact with the inside of the damper 
felt.
