I would imagine the person making the original query is relatively new
either to the list or to rebuilding, and I should think such questions
are legit. I, frankly, would like to know lots more about what people
charge, as I'm still a newbie, and know I don't attempt a number of
things as I am so squeemish about telling people such-and-such work will
cost them thousands of dollars. I realize it's part of becoming a
business person, but I'll take all the information I can get and be
appreciative. I do know, doing my first, and to date, only rebuild,
about five years ago, shanks, flanges, hammers, curved tails all cost me
$650. I'd certainly think his prices are too low.

Speaking of Newton Hunt's work............ I was in conversation with an
unnamed technician from Tempe AZ........ who's fiddled with every
electronic tuning device known to man, even been known to participate in
a tune-off or two, and hammer technique, etc. came up. This unamed
tooner, whose expertise I should only dream of approaching a decade or
two from now (assuming I'm still alive) , said, "I wish I could arrive at
the point where I could make my tunings as solid as those of Newton
Hunt." That statement, made by one of the finest tuners in the
Country.................................

From what contact I've had with the esteemed Mr. Hunt, I should just
imagine whatever he does, he does at something approaching
perfection................
Just my opinon, of course.
