Hi Phil,

Did you check the ends of the fallboard?  Sometimes there is a sort of arm 
that attaches to the ends of the fallboard, usually with about 2 or three 
screws in each one.  If you're not looking for it, they can be dang near 
invisible.  You can't see it if the fallboard is all the way up or all the 
way down, but when it's in between you can see it.

There was a drawing of it in one of the Journals several months back, maybe 
you could look.

Just one possibility.
