Considering that 100 years ago there were 300 piano makers in the US there was a
strong profit motive and a lot of less than stellar pianos were produced right
up and into the depression years. After that piano makers did little if any
research and development with the objective to make a better piano. Instead
their objective was "market driven" and "make it cheaper". Now the market
whizzes have control and to hell with quality and sound and the customer.

No profit no company indeed, but what happened to integrity, customer care and
all the competition of the early 20th century?
