I'm coming in a little late on this, but have you tried to re-tap the =
hole? If I remember correctly, the hole was drilled out, but what was =
the final diameter? If you drilled far enough to begin to see cast iron, =
there should be enough material to re-thread. Sorry if this has been =
suggested and I missed it.

harder than=20
  brass, could it be you were using an undersize and just screwing into =
the=20
  brass left, try to get it all out...=20
