    Hmm,  The first thought in my mind is that it takes two to make a victim. 
  I would have added, before I left the studio, since the best I could do 
sounded bad right then,  they shouldn't expect it to improve after I left.  
   If you know it is not possible to cleanly tune this piano, explain that 
you expect to get paid for trying,  and the owner will either have to live 
with the result or promise to never call you again.
