Paul, Go to Frank Ford's site,

for Luthiers/data/materials"  or just search for "hide glue".  There is
a lot of information there including mixing for different strengths,
etc.  On further down the long list is an article on using hide glue.
Another quite interesting article is entitled, "Hide Glue From the
Supermarket".  If you want to use hide glue without investing in a $90
glue pot, there is lots of information in the Musical Instrument Maker's
Forum archives.....but you must join the list to gain access.......it'
painless and free...........Did I mention, you can use hide glue on
pianos?
