Several years ago I was asked to do a similar tuning (actually 2 side by side, one at 440) for a demonstration that this was a more natural pitch for the human voice and the pitch at which Italian Bel Canto opera composers wrote. In New York, the effort was spearheaded by a group organized by the wife of Lyndon LaRouche (anybody remember him?) and I seem to recall that an Italian group was behind it.
