Service calls should be a flat fee (determined by the distance from your abode) followed by an hourly rate charged per 15 minutes..........the same as my photocopier technician charges! If you happen to be in the next street or whatever, good luck, it doesn't often work out that way does it?

$1.50 per mile seems very reasonable when you think about what it costs to start your car Wim! Remember to cover you actual costs as well as your time on the road.

I've got a job coming up where the lady rang and asked me to come to a town (3 hours away) for 1 piano! I basicslly quoted her for a days work ($350, Australian about US$220) plus mileage for the fuel, wear and tear on the car and depreciation. I still think I've got the short end of the stick.

Every one of those charges time from shop to house as part of the bill
on a service call. Call a plumber and ask about travel charges.
