I don't think we're really ruining the house by keeping the humid at 40% or so
in the winter.  We've lived here 35 years, and have replaced most of the
windows with new thermal casements, but the old windows were original and 75
yrs old, and already rotted.  We keep the new ones painted; the general
insulation is pretty good and the attic doesnt get too damp, etc.  I guess our
health is more impt, as well as the instruments.  These older houses have
thicker walls - more insulated space, almost 2" more.
