Placing a laptop on a grand is never a problem. One can place a laptop on many vertical fallboards with no problem. I only rarely place a laptop on the top of a vertical piano. I regularly place a laptop on a small Accu-Tuner case sitting on the floor just in front of the bass end caster. This has become perfectly natural for me and works just great.
