Hi Barrie
I have a couple of questions.

What does "The nap should run with the jack" mean ?
Also,,, How do you determine which direction the nap runs?
#3 What does "The carding gap is for repetition" mean?

I mean you guys' (Brits) use of English is sometime bewildering. ; )
