Try it on several loose hammer shanks before using it in a piano. It needs to be hot, hot enough to burn you if you touch the ends. It takes little time, just a second or two, to warp a shank. It will burn the wood if left on too long. Once you have a feel for timing, and how it feels on the shank then try it cold on a piano to see how it fits on shanks there and around the backchecks and backstops. Newton nhunt@jagat.com
