I have a Bush and Lane 1913 with a brass rail but the
tongues are
short, so that the repair clips are too long, and have to
be ground
down, or the action rail has to be carved out.

There is an interesting repair for brass rails
(regardless of length of the tongues) in the Feb 1985
journal, written by Don Farrer.  It also happens to be in
the "General Repair" reprint put out by the Guild.
