1) Is there such a thing as a 2-year old Kranich & Bach? And if there is, > > does it use modern parts? Two years ago, while working for Dunkley Music in Boise, we had a Baldwin sale where the usual crusty characters rolled out to promise the moon and deliver pianos. At that sale we sold two Kranich & Bach studios. One of the purchasers ended up being very close friends and so I was privy to the piano on a weekly basis. Yes, to my knowledge they were made in China. Yes, they exhibit the standard popping and swinging tuning pins we all adore. And yes, center pins walk, walk, walk their way out of any and every flange. What is truly unfortunate is that I was then placed between my employer and my friends in an exciting melee I never want to be gathered with again. To answer your first concern, the parts are standard, the materials- well, you know... They sound pretty nice when tuned, must have been scaled by Baldwin. If you choose to repair and charge by the hour, you'll never go hungry... Eric Leatha, RPT Tunrboy@aol.com
