Here are photos of my first move beyond using screw clamps. Just a strip of hardwood, with a piece of scrap glued to it. And a couple of clamps made from strips of wood and two long wood screws. The key is clamped to the point where the scrap of wood is, and the other clamp is used to bear down on the end of the key.
