It's pretty frustrating when someone with a $20 guitar tuner challenges you.

One easy response is to describe the process by which you calibrate your 
reference to the National Institute of Standards.  Robert Scott lists 
several ways here:

This leads naturally to the question of whether the challenger has 
calibrated her or his pitch source recently.

I had an electronic bass player complain about the pitch of the piano 
compared to his low "E", set by a guitar tuner.
