[CAUT] Gradually improving voicing

Phil-
About softening liquids: you might try rubbing alcohol in a spritz bottle
from the drugstore cosmetics department (a little spray bottle such as CA
kicker comes in). Rubbing alcohol is about 30% water.
The idea is to do a very light (very, very light) misting of the hammer
surface, then buff with a towel or small brush.
All of this must be done with a very light hand. The hammer surface should
not be noticably wet.
The idea is just to lift up the surface layer that has been compressed from
playing.
(For hot pressed hammers you could add a drop of fabric softener, and brush
a little harder.)
If the hammers are overstriking, you might try moving the strike point in a
bit if there's room.
