Stephen,

It may be phosphur (sp?) bronze, which looks a little like reddish brass.
The folks at Zuckermann harpsichords are very helpful and have always been
able to answer my questions. The phone # is 860-535-1715. Good luck! BTW, I
think Herz made pretty good instruments, though I've never worked on any
myself, I've heard tell...
