Oh, now, that opens a nice can of bait. :)

Adding weight to what hits the strings will increase volume, and in the killer
octave or where more weight has been removed from the hammer by filing this is
indeed a viable and essential approach to tone control.

Not helter skelter but controlled and careful weight control can be used as a
means to getting more out this piano than was possible without weight control.

Think on this.  If it is too loud then reduce weight.  If it is not loud enough
then add weight.

The problem with this is that adding or removing weight effects touch weight out
front so this is not an approach to solves all problems.  Care and judgment, as
in so many things, is essential.
