Hi Newton, My point may be that it does not necessarily follow that "louder" means more fundamental. I have done some testing using Reyburn's cybertuner to see what changes are affected by increasing hammer weight, and initial indications show that the third partial almost always increased while the fundamental either stayed the same or decreased. Something that I did not expect. vince - > Ed, how did you come to the conclusion that adding weight to the hammers will - - Oh, now, that opens a nice can of bait. :) - - Adding weight to what hits the strings will increase volume, and in the killer - octave or where more weight has been removed from the hammer by filing this is - indeed a viable and essential approach to tone control. - - Not helter skelter but controlled and careful weight control can be used as a - means to getting more out this piano than was possible without weight control. - - Think on this. If it is too loud then reduce weight. If it is not loud enough - then add weight. - - The problem with this is that adding or removing weight effects touch weight out - front so this is not an approach to solves all problems. Care and judgment, as - in so many things, is essential. - - Newton -
