To remove upright hammer heads, cut the molding with diagonal cutters, 
same for grands. To clean the shanks, grip them with pliers and use the 
cleaning tool for your combination handle so you don't stress the flange 
and bushing.  The shanks must be removed from the rail to use the plier 
type extractors so as not to damage the center.
