-----Original Message----- From: Duaine Hechle OK, so I'm supposed to learn aural tuning skills. Correct me if I'm wrong. Now, one starts to tune by testing A-440 with a - tuning fork. That is a given. So, why can't a person tune the temperament with all tuning forks - it's all aural tuning and using no ETD ? Sounds like a test I could pass with flying colors <grin> Greetings, I doubt it. Tuning to unison is a lot more difficult to do than tuning by sequential intervals. I would be very surprised if one could produce a workable temperament from forks, and if they did, they time required would make it a money losing approach. This has been tried before, didn't catch on. You can test yourself with a pair of forks, say a C and a F. Use them to tune two notes, and then see if you have a tempered fourth.
