There is one element missing in this experiment: We don't know how well the violins were set up ( "regulated" and "voiced" in piano tech language). A Stradivarius with cheap strings, bad sound post adjustment and poorly cut bridge will probably sound worse and feel worse than any $800 plywood Chinese violin you can find on ebay.
