Make a dummy tuning pin - cut a slot in the head of the pin, down to the
eye.  Make your coils and then it slides off.  However, you have to open up
the coil anyway to get it on the pin in the piano.  I don't worry about it.
 I use a normal pin most of the time, wind my coils, use an awl to pull out
the becket and place it on the pin in the piano.  Lift and tighten with
pliers/vise grips/whatever as you pull it up to pitch.
