Greetings, I don't know why, but it seems that most of the oval is caused by pushing the keys distally. This may be from the fingers, the geometry, or people pushing on the front, or whatever, but it seems that 98% of my repair uses the shim of veneer on the proximal side of the hole. I check by moving the key back and forth on the pin and see where it lines up with its neighbors. It is usually clearly in one direction or the other, only occasionally needing shims front and back.
