[pianotech] Young Chang

Young Chang moved to a new location in Southern California, and is in a new
county so had to get new phone numbers. I suspect the old numbers rolled
over for a time, but just expired. The company is still there. I can't
explain why they don't have a phone number listed on their web site -
strange.

I found this one to work: 657-200-3481. This goes to the desk of Brian Yi,
who is not (I think) in the service department, but he can refer you to the
correct number. If you want to experiment, you can step up through the last
digit, as it appears their numbers are all 657-200-34XX, the fax is 77, this
person is 81, I know someone in the credit department is 85. Someone will
answer if you call during business hours, Pacific time.

I tried both numbers I had, and both are disconneted. Sorry, I don't know
what to tell you about the future of YC

A few years ago, I did my one and only Young Chang action bracket
replacement job, then blogged about it. Since that time, I've gotten at
least a dozen inquiries from piano owners and fellow technicians.

A few weeks ago I got such an inquiry from a tech. As usual, I sent him the
usual phone number. He emailed back that the number didn't work. I tried it
myself. Didn't work. Now, the crazy thing is that in the two weeks or so
since, I've gotten three or four additional inquires. I was on the phone to
a tech on the east coast this afternoon when I got a call from an owner in
Hawaii. I've never experienced a deluge anything like this on this subject.
It's nuts. The tech out east said he'd called a YC dealer who was of no help
(supplied him the fax number that's on the website.) I just called a local
dealer and he gave me a couple numbers that are now connected to non-piano
businesses.

I've heard several rumors in conjunction with this over the years... I've
had owners tell me their tech told them that YC is closed (long before
this), that they aren't supplying brackets any more, that they charge for
the brackets. None of that was true the last I checked, earlier this year.

It's almost as if these brackets were on a timer to go nuts in July of 2012
and YC knew it, so they closed their doors. (I am NOT saying this is what
happened... it just seems that way!)

If anyone has ANY information about what's going on with YC, PLEASE let us
all know. Or even if someone is supplying replacement brackets. If a supply
house, or mfr would pick up the slack, I'm sure there are plenty of owners
who'd be grateful just to get their pianos fixed, even at a cost.

Thanks,

Paul Bruesch
