     Go to Wikepedia and read about Sigmund Freud's nephew Edward Bernay's work on behalf of corporations 
( not humanity at large) to promote cigarette smoking by women (for R.J. Rerynolds),  bacon and eggs for breakfast (instead of the then-prevalent, much healthier, coffee and toast; for Armour) and water fluoridation for Alcoa (which had tons of the highy toxic stuff left over from aluminum production, and was looking for a way to dispose of it). And read quotes from his 1928 book "Propaganda", to see what utter contempt he had for human beings, and to dispel any residual contamination in your mind by the "Corporations are my friend" particle
which sadly, currently, infects many Americans. (Even if merely subconsciously.)
     Corporations are legally bound to maximize profits for their investors which, in the minds of many CEO's, means that they are REQUIRED to partake of all methods ---including unethical ones--- to achieve this goal. 
     That is a fact.
     So if you choose to blindly believe what they say about their products' safety and benefits, you are setting yourself up to be abused.
