Joe,

These strings are not parallel.  They appear to diverge or flare pretty dramatically.  If you carefully count the strings from right to left on the bass bridge, what looks to be a "bichord" passing over the bridge is actually the treble-most string of the last bichord right up next to the bass-most string of the first trichord.

Is that the answer to the puzzler?
