My experience is that kind of coverage makes you an extravagant consumer and is the same reason our health care system is a mess. For a $1500 vehicle I would not spend $500 on a new windshield. I'd get one from the salvage yard for less than $50 and find an installer who moonlights and would install it for $40. And I still save money compared to what extended insurance coverage costs. I've saved thousands in the years I've been driving following this rationale. YMMV.
