I'll have to give that a try. Does gently pushing down on the wippen affect the pinning especially on an old piano?  



No, but you do have to be gentle. One problem with doing it this way is that you run the risk of breaking the wippen. That's why you do need to be gentle.

Roger, I don't think the dampers were touching only because they lifted fine when I had the bass sustain depressed. Plus I didn't hear the rubbing sound it would have made. The felts were very dry.
