My magnifying glass still works, fortunately, unlike the eyes. Different 
manufacturers would be my guess. The brass plate systems always were a 
crap shoot as to whether I had a screw that would fit them.

Whitworth, that is. It was the first attempt at a world standard, when 
everyone was using something different. I've had movers lose the bolts, 
and just made new nuts for locally available bolts. Seemed easier, 
overall, and certainly quicker.
